Here are three great examples of QR code marketing campaigns being used in the wild. Take notes from these efforts in order to maximize your marketing impact.

Poster in Jamba Juice

QR Code Relevancy:

Score: 5/5
Jamba Juice is almost the definition of gentrification. The more affluent the consumer, the higher chance they will have smartphones capable of scanning these QR codes. Additionally, at Jamba Juice you place your order and pay for it, then collect your frozen treat from a separate counter once it has been prepared. This poster was located in the area where everyone was standing around waiting for his or her drink.

Incentive to Scan:

Score: 5/5
Both a call to action and scanning instructions. Incorporating the QR code into the design adds to the appeal.

Content:

Score: 3/5
The landing page has entry fields that you can fill out to become an Insider (receiving emails with news and promotions). The site is mobile optimized, but it requires the user to enter up to 7 different pieces of information. This will surely provide a steep drop off.
Total score: 13/15

Tips for improving:

Limit the amount of information the user has to enter to sign up for the email list.

QR Code Relevancy:

Score: 3/5
There’s not a significant basis for high smartphone penetration for Staples customers.

Incentive to Scan:

Score: 5/5
Strong call to action along with scanning instructions, along with the $ winnings prominently displayed.

Content:

Score: 4/5
Scanning the QR code took me to a very slick and simple survey about the ordering process. The only problem was the long length of the survey.
Total score: 12/15

Tips for improving:

Make the survey shorter. People aren’t going to want to spend more than about 2 minutes engaging with your content—no matter what the reward.

Outside of box shipped from OnlineShoes.com

QR Code Relevancy:

Score: 4/5
Online shoppers are likely to have smartphones capable of scanning QR codes, and presenting it at this point of contact makes sense. However, many people are going to want to dive into their new purchase instead of postpone opening a package in order to scan the QR code.

Incentive to Scan:

Score: 5/5
The CTA was fun and intriguing, rather than a flat “Scan the QR Code to ___” approach.

Content:

Score: 5/5
Took me to a short video that showed employees thanking me for my order. It was extremely personal and was quite a nice touch.
Total score: 14/15
